As temperatures drop and winter operations intensify across the Northern Hemisphere, unmanned systems and soldier-worn electronics face a familiar threat: severe performance loss in the cold. Many legacy batteries struggle at temperatures below freezing, degrading flight time, limiting mission flexibility, and forcing commanders to choose between reduced capability and increased risk, and putting operators at risk when their systems underperform.
CRG Defense’s U.S.-made battery cells and packs are purpose-built to defeat the cold, delivering reliable power down to minus 40 Celsius to keep drones, aircraft, ground robotics and mission systems fully operational when it matters most.
“Winter exposes the weaknesses of conventional cells,” said Jacob Monat, vice president of innovation. “Our chemistries, pack architectures and non-FEOC supply chain give U.S. troops confidence that their systems will perform in extreme environments where others fail.”
CRG Defense designs, manufactures and integrates advanced battery cells in its American factory using a secure, non-foreign-entity-of-concern supply chain. Its three cell families, G Series graphite-anode cells, L Series lithium-metal cells and P Series primary batteries, are each engineered to deliver high-demand specifications, including high power, inherent safety and low-temperature performance for demanding military and aerospace missions.
Cold-Weather Advantages of CRG Defense Batteries:
- Extreme low-temperature performance: Operates reliably down to minus 40 Celsius to support winter, Arctic and high-altitude missions where conventional packs cannot perform.
- High energy density: Up to 400 Wh/kg in rechargeable cells and 450 Wh/kg in primary systems, extending endurance for UAS, robotics, soldier systems and directed-energy platforms.
- Inherent safety: Proprietary nonflammable electrolytes provide improved performance under crush, ballistic threat and thermal stress.
- Made in America: More than 95% of material value is derived from non-FEOC sources to ensure NDAA compliance, supply chain security and domestic production assurance.
CRG Defense also provides custom battery pack engineering, including full-system integration, BMS development, thermal management and safety testing. These capabilities support rapid fielding, even in harsh or contested environments.
“With CRG Defense cells powering today’s unmanned systems, longer missions, colder climates and harsher conditions stop being constraints,” Monat said. “Winter is coming, but our batteries are ready.”
